Having a Successful Job Interview.

Being a success in the interview is crucial in order to be in the running for the job. Before interview questions are considered, there are definite aspects for which you should be organised and prepared such as company research, memorising details of your resume, practising appropriate interview behaviour, appropriate attire and practising concluding the interview with a heart felt thank you.

These questions should be part of your overall guide to surviving an interview successfully. They will provide you with the key to mastery of any interview within a short period of time and introduce you to the necessities of superior answering skills, an appropriate carriage, the ability to exude confidence and a calm attitude. These will allow you to stand out from the crowd. There are number of questions often asked by interviewers in an attempt to “weed out” the lesser candidates and these may discourage you: being aware of them will prevent you from falling into this trap.

The top job interview questions are as follows: > What do you perceive to be your weaknesses? > Why should I employ you over anyone? > Why you want a job with our company? > What are your personal and career goals? > Why made you decide to leave your previous job? > What gave you the most satisfaction in your last job? > What are the three positive things your last employer would say about you? > What can you offer us that other applicants cannot? > What are your expectations as regards salary? > If you were an animal, which one would you choose to be?

Besides these questions there are a few more questions which are considered equally important. > How long are you planning on remaining with our company? > Where do you see yourself in five years time? > Why did you choose to complete this area of study? > How do you occupy yourself in your spare time? > Are there other jobs that you are considering?

Your aim in the interview must be to convince the employer that you have the requisite skills, background and ability to do the job well and that you are able to easily fit into the running of the company. Realise immediately that an interview is not an intentional process in which the employer offers the job to the best candidate based on merit only. It is a highly subjective exchange in which the best person is selected with regards to issues including personality, confidence, enthusiasm, a positive attitude, outstanding interpersonal skills and excellent communication.

It is always better to prepare answers for these questions but don’t memorize their answers so that you appear like a robot on autopilot. A summary of the most salient points you wish to include is usually sufficient to help you get through the interview. With practice, answering questions correctly becomes second nature - there is really nothing to be scared about if you are prepared. The previous sample questions will definitely guide you towards an effective interview but only if you give it your best.

A successful job interview can give you the big break you need in your career. It is not an easy task to successfully complete an interview and quite a number of people have many problems with them. The greatest of these problems is the “fear factor” and it has ruined many an interview. To conquer this problem, good interview preparation is the only way out. If you go into an interview with little or no preparation, it will only result in problems and may even leave you with a bad reputation as regards your career. Successful job interviews are accomplished through cleverly answered questions, a bullet-proof strategy and back up information about every aspect of the job.

Prepare your plan for the interview, ensuring that you have all the necessary information regarding the company, its terms and conditions, and other relevant details. Gather your certificates of achievements and/or qualifications and mark sheets. Organize a first-rate file of all your data and present it in an attractive and standard format. Include your current resume on top of this file and ensure that you bring more than one copy of this resume with you.

Create a record of the types of questions you will be asked by the interviewer and prepare sample answers. Decide upon your answers based on the facts presented to you and your qualifications. The entire outcome of the interview is reliant upon how you cleverly you answer the questions and how well you justify yourself. You should be able to justify to the interviewer why you want this particular job, why you are wishing to enter this industry and what exactly you are looking for in this job. These questions are very important as they have the ability to explain your reasoning. There are further questions regarding your shortcomings and strengths, what your finest achievements are, what you really want to realize as a career, what your experience tells you and other general questions. The answers to these types of questions should be informative and detailed.

Highlight some examples of your experience and training, and use them correctly whenever you want to validate your answers. Build a good rapport with the interviewer. Always carefully take note of the interviewer’s words and be attentive and focused. Speak truthfully and clearly. Substantiate how you plan to achieve your goals with relevant details. Make sure that you have at least two or three fine references as these will help you to be one step ahead of the other candidates. Maintain a positive attitude and remain enthusiastic and focused.

It is appropriate to prepare some questions for the interviewer in regards to the job and relevant company issues. This will indicate that you are really enthusiastic about this job and it shows that you are interested in company issues. Carefully study the company policy and check the company web site for any information about which the interviewer may ask you. Plan for the tricky questions eg. “Where do you see yourself five years from now?”, “What was your previous supervisor’s opinion of you?” etc.

You can have a successful conclusion to the interview if you follow these guidelines and think cleverly.

The Powers of a Positive Attitude

Saturday 12 April 2008 @ 12:13 am
by Kim and Charles Petty

I am going to ask you to something very weird right now. First of all, I want you to listen to your thoughts. Now tell me, what thoughts fill your head? Would you label them as positive, or negative?

Now let’s say you are walking down the street with these thoughts. Do you think anyone who would meet you would be able to tell you what’s on your mind?

The answer to number one is up to you. But, the answer number two can be pretty generic. Although people will not be able to tell you exactly what you think, they will more or less have an idea of how you are feeling.

Here’s another question. When you enter a party filled with friends, do they all fall silent as if something terrible had happened? Or does everybody there perk up as if waiting for something exciting to happen?

You know what? The answer to all these depends on your frame of mind.

Thoughts are very powerful. They affect your general attitude. The attitude you carry reflects on your appearance, too - unless, of course, you are a great actor.

And it doesn’t end there. Your attitude can also affect people around you.

The type of attitude you carry depends on you. It can be either positive or negative.

Positive thoughts have a filling effect. They are admittedly invigorating. Plus, the people around the person carrying positive thoughts are usually energized by this type of attitude.

Negative thoughts on the other hand have a sapping effect on other people. Aside from making you look gloomy and sad, negative thoughts can turn a festive gathering into a funeral wake.

A positive attitude attracts people, while a negative attitude repels them. People tend to shy away from those who carry a negative attitude.

We can also define attitude as the way of looking at the world. If you choose to focus on the negative things in the world, more or less you have a negative attitude brewing up. However, if you choose to focus on the positive things, you are more likely carry a positive attitude.

You have much to gain from a very positive attitude. For one, studies have shown that a positive attitude promotes better health. Those with this kind of attitude also have more friends. projecting a positive attitude also helps one to handle stress and problems better than those who have a negative attitude.

A positive attitude begins with a healthy self-image. If you will love the way you are and are satisfied, confident, and self-assured, you also make others are around feel the same way.

A negative attitude, on the other hand, has, of course, an opposite effect. So, carrying a negative attitude has a twofold drawback. You feel bad about yourself, and you make others feel the same way.

If you want to have a positive attitude, you have to feature healthy thoughts. This is probably very hard to do nowadays since, all around us, the media feeds us nothing but negative thoughts. A study shows that for every 14 things a parent says to his or her child, only one is positive. This is truly a saddening thought.

If you want a healthier outlook in life, you need to think happy thoughts, and you have to hear positive things as well. So, what can you do? Well, for starters, you could see a funny movie, you could play with children, spend some time telling jokes with friends. All these activities fill you with positive stimuli, which in turn promotes positive attitude.

Although it is impossible to keep ourselves from the negative things around us, you can still carry a positive attitude by focusing on the good things, the positive things in life.

And this positive attitude you now carry can be of benefit to other people. Sometimes when other people feel down, the thing people mostly do is try to give them advice. But sometimes, all they need is somebody to sit by them, and listen to them. If you have a positive attitude you may be able to cheer them up without even having to say anything.

If positive attitude is really great, why do people choose to adopt a negative attitude instead? One who carries a negative attitude may be actually sending a signal for attention. Before you get me wrong, feeling sad, angry, or gloomy is not wrong itself. But dwelling on these thoughts for far too long is not healthy either. There is a time to mourn.

As always, if you are beset by troubles, even in your darkest hour, focus on the good things in life, you will always have hope. Problems become something you can overcome.

You do not have much to lose by adopting a healthy, positive attitude. Studies show that such an attitude actually retards aging, makes you healthier, helps you develop a better stress coping mechanism, and has a very positive effect on all the people you meet every day. So, what’s not to like about a positive attitude? Adopt one today.

Think Positive Live Positive

Thinking positive may sound like gibberish to some but others are firm believers. Faced with problems or challenges, thinking positive can help you achieve the best.

Even when things don’t seem to be going right, a positive attitude can help you defeat your challenges. When you think positively, you can picture your accomplishments. Failing is not an alternative and you can manage any difficulties that come to you. Positive people attract other positive people and are more decisive in life.

When you come across a challenge, try to work around it. Giving up is not the solution and will not help you achieve your goals. It can make you more stressed and feel far worse.

Reaching your goals and accomplishing tasks will make you evolve as a person. You will exhibit more confidence and accept new challenges.

It can be difficult to take on a new positive personality. It is not realistic to expect anyone to change completely overnight. Taking small steps toward positive thinking will create big changes.

Start your morning with positive thoughts. You’re going to have a great day. Nice things are going to happen to you. Picture all the new clients you’ve attracted or a reporter who wants to do a magazine story featuring you.

Create a “dream board” or “dream book” to collect all the things you would like to accomplish or just add pictures that you like from a magazine. You can pin these to a bulletin board or just paste them to a scrapbook.

Don’t limit your ideas. If you have a picture of a house that you love, put it on your board. Is there a car you’ve always wanted or a place you’d love to travel?

Take that moment each day to check your dream board or book. Think positively and tell yourself that “one day, that car will be mine” or “I’m going to vacation here”. This can be the motivation you need to work and achieve success. Your dream book can give you a glimpse of your rewards. It is up to you to make it happen.
